Beyond Words: Curiosity and Deep Listening in Diverse Teams by Luisa Escalona

A practical session that builds two high-impact skills for multicultural communication: asking respectful, curiosity-driven questions and listening beyond the words to understand feelings, intent, and cultural context. Participants practice tools they can use immediately in global teams, diverse classrooms, and cross-cultural workplaces. 

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Use curiosity questions to reduce assumptions and increase psychological safety across cultures.
• Adapt their questioning style to different cultural norms around directness, hierarchy, and context.
• Practice deep listening that attends to content, emotion, nonverbal cues, and what is left unsaid.
• Apply paraphrasing and clarifying strategies to check understanding and prevent cross-cultural misunderstandings.
