About the event:

Every year, Women's International Day on the 8th of March gives us the opportunity to reflect on important subjects such as women’s participation in leadership, the status of gender equality and diversity issues in career development.

This year, Ambassadors from countries located in three different continents Africa, Europe and Australia, will share with us their insights into these topics and will talk about the opportunities that exists right now for women in their area of the world. The three Ambassadors will each give a 10 min presentation. Followed by a panel debate, moderated by Britta Thomsen, former Member of the European Parliament.

The opening remarks will be by KVINFO’s Director, Henriette Laursen.

    Portugal’s ambassador to Denmark

    HE. Ms. Rita Laranjinha graduated international relations in Lisbon and European studies in Bruges. Rita Laranjinha started her diplomatic career in 1996 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She served in Portuguese embassies in Spain and Angola. While working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she was responsible for European affairs and relations with African and American countries. Before her ambassadorial posting, Rita Laranjinha was head of the Minister’s Cabinet.

    Ghana’s ambassador to Denmark

    H.E. Mrs. Amerley Ollennu Awua-Asamoa holds a Bachelor of Arts (Law and Sociology), Master of Arts in Development  with specialty in Women and Development. She also holds an Executive MBA from Ghana and an extensive career in HR; co-founder of the Association of African Women in Development, the Vice president of the Society for Women and AIDS in Africa, and many other activities before joining the Diplomatic staff of her country.

    MaryEllen Miller
    Australia’s ambassador to Denmark

    HE. Ms. Miller is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and was most recently Assistant Secretary, Non-Government Organisations & Volunteers Branch. She has held a range of positions in DFAT, including Assistant Secretary, Scholarships & Alumni Branch. Ms Miller holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Canberra.

    Henriette Laursen

    Managing director, Kvinfo

    Henriette Laursen is trained in law and has worked with the Attorney General, been director of the AIDS Foundation and secretary general of the Danish Youth Joint Council (DUF). In 2017, she was named Director of KVINFO.

    Britta Thomsen

    Britta Thomsen
    Associated professor, CBS

    Britta Thomsen is a Danish politician that from 2004 until 2014 was a member of The European Parliament, representing Socialdemokraterne. In parliament, Thomsen served as vice-chair of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy. She was also a member of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality, a substitute for the Committee on Development, and vice-chair of the delegation for relations with South Africa. She supported the Manifesto of the Spinelli Group.  Today Britta is an associated professor at CBS.
